Substantialis 01:01:15

about

Substantialis is part of a body of longform sound pieces composed by Nicholas Maloney and Tony Panella between January 2021 - January 2023. The other part of this collaboration became the 3xCDr album “Hypnon" which released on Asonu imprint in May 2023.

Substantialis, being the most wide-awake and sonically active of these surreal, longform compositions, was created by mixing layers of field recordings and acoustic object handling by Maloney in Cork (IE) with manipulations of electronics and acoustic objects made by Panella in his home studio in Mississippi (US). The result is a moving picture... a bustling, crackling, sloshing sound world that patiently progresses as it articulates it’s vivid reality in the imagination of the listener. The movement of people across a shakey suspension bridge, the gurgling of aquatic life, the crunching of dirt, leaves, and debris, the physicality of the city soundscape... sounds expressed by human/nature. The essence is here, as we find our way back to... listen.
